The defining feature of calligraphy is line weight variation: downstrokes are thick, upstrokes are thin.
  • Dip Pens & Brush Pens: Apply pressure on downstrokes to spread the nib or brush tip. Lighten pressure on upstrokes to produce hairline lines.
  • Guideline Angle: Standard calligraphy uses angled slants (typically 55 degrees) to keep loops parallel.
